William Z. Myers, 90, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, OH. Born in Toledo, Ohio on September 18, 1925 to Theodore & Mildred (Zorn) Myers, he grew up in Gibsonburg and Elyria, Ohio. Bill was a 1943 graduate of Gibsonburg High School, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and graduated as a mechanical engineer from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest school of engineering and science in the United States. He was a professional registered engineer in both Ohio and Michigan. Bill operated his own business, Myers Industrial Sales, as a manufacturer's representative for companies designing and building equipment for water and waste water treatment for over forty years, selling the business in 2004. He belonged to various professional groups. On December 27, 1947, Bill married Glenna Smith, sharing their lives for more than 68 years. She survives along with their son, Steven (Motoko) Myers, Tokyo, Japan; their daughter, Hallie (John Herron) Myers, Raleigh, North Carolina; and grandson, William Haruki, Tokyo. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Bill cherished his family, enjoyed his work, and found pleasure in playing bridge and traveling, visiting many U.S. cities, Mexico, Caribbean Islands, Europe, and Japan. Bill will be remembered for finding the fun in situations, the humor in circumstances and bringing laughter to the lives he blessed.
