William J. Rockhold, 74, of Fremont, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Memorial Hospital, Fremont. He was born in Navarre, Ohio on March 6, 1936, the son of William & Dolores L. (Hueffner) Rockhold. Bill was retired from the U.S. Air Force where he served his country over 20 years. He was also a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. Stationed at Takhli Air Force Base in Thailand during the Vietnam War, Bill also served at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, OH; Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; Lackland Air Force Base, Texas; Ft. Gordon, GA; and Columbus, MS. He also served overseas in Okinawa, Morocco, and Germany. Among other medals, Bill was awarded the U.S. Air Force Commendation Medal at Andrews Air Force Base. After his retirement, he worked for Flum Music Co., Massillon, for 14 years. Active in veteran's organizations, Bill was a life member of the V.F.W.; the D.A.V. and was a member of American Legion Post #160, Brewster, OH. He was also a member of the Fremont Moose and The Retired Enlisted Association (T.R.E.A.). On November 19, 1967, Bill married the former Marcia A. Mehlow, and she survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Angela (Jason) Dreger, Sedalia, Colorado; son, William Scott Rockhold, Pennsylvania; sisters, Aletha Weaver, Wilmot, Ohio, Jean (James) Tillepaw and Barbara Kimble, both of Brewster, Ohio; and a granddaughter, Mercedez Alvarado, Goshen, Indiana. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marilyn Hall. The family will receive friends from 4-7 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Spidell Funeral Home, Brewster, Ohio, where friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Rev. Michael Bradford will officiate, and interment will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens, Canton, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospice, Clyde, Ohio; Brewster United Methodist Church; any veteran's organization, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
