Thomas D. "Tommy" Thompson

Thomas D. “Tommy” Thompson, 71, of Bellevue, OH passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. He was born May 10, 1954 in Sandusky, OH the son of Joseph E. and Betty (Gurtz) Thompson. Tommy married Jean Yingling on February 7, 1981 and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Tommy ran the greenhouses at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky until he started Thompson Landscaping and Greenhouses on Catawba Island in 1976. He retired in 2012. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bellevue and a longtime member of Catawba Island Club. During retirement, in Arizona, he would prepare meals and feed the homeless weekly.

Surviving are his wife: Jean; sons: Tommy (Erin) Thompson of Bellevue, Nathan Thompson of Catawba Island; grandson: Thomas Benjamin Dale Thompson; brother: Frederick J. (Martha) Thompson of Sandusky; sister: Teresa Thompson of Sandusky; aunts: Marty Polta and Rosie McDowell both of Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Tommy’s body will be cremated and his cremains will be scattered in Lake Erie at a later date.
