Steven M. Plottner

Steven M. Plottner, 57, of Marblehead, Ohio died Monday, July 13, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Bowling Green, Ohio. He was born on September 16, 1957 in Canton, Ohio, the son of Marvin and Lucinda (Melchior) Plottner. He married Cynthia Lucas on May 19, 2001 and she survives. Steve was the Executive Director for the Lutheran Homes Society Family & Youth Services, based in Oregon, Ohio. He served LHS Family and Youth Services since 1991, initially as a Placement Coordinator, and then as Assistant Director. He graduated from Malone College in Canton, Ohio in 1980 and attended Ashland Seminary. Prior to joining LHS and in addition to his work in public relations, he served as publisher at SMS Publications in Evanston, Illinois. He was the Mayor of Marblehead from 2000-2002, and served as President Pro Tem of council for 4 years. Steve was a member of many professional, non-profit child and youth-care organizations and also served as president of the Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals in Ohio, where he was a board member for 18 years. A member of St. John Lutheran Church in Marblehead, Steve was responsible for changing the sign in front of church for over 20 years. He was an avid writer and poet, with works appearing in everything from poetry journals and trade publications to the local newspaper blog. He also loved food, entertaining and music -especially Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. But his greatest love was spending time with his devoted wife and loving daughters, son and grandkids. Steve lived life to the fullest and cherished every moment of celebrating it with his family. He was a positive, vibrant, and charismatic person who committed wholeheartedly to his work and family. He was very kind and generous, always putting the needs of others before his own. He touched so many people's lives and will truly be missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia; children: Sarah Plottner, Marblehead; Jennifer (Frank) Neill, Vickery, Ohio; Jordan (Kate Neithammer) Plottner, Columbus, Ohio; and Lauren Burton, Chardon, Ohio; grandchildren: Landon Neill, Lucas Burton, and AdaMae Plottner; mother: Lucinda Cutlip; brothers and sisters: Ted, Terry, Cynthia, Scott, Sally, Samantha, Cathy and Gail. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother: Joe. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 10:30am at St. John Lutheran Church, 117 Stone Street, Marblehead with Reverend Julie Kling officiating. Burial will follow in Sackett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the SM Plottner Writing Scholarship in care of Cynthia Plottner.
