Robert H. "Bob" Damschroder Sr., 80 of Elmore, OH died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, OH. He was born November 30, 1936 in Elmore, to the late Clarence "Chug" and Helen (Shull) Damschroder. He was a 1955 graduate of Harris- Elmore High School. On June 14, 1958 he married Shirley Griffin, and she survives. Bob started his employment driving truck for Tonys Bread, Fremont, OH. He then later worked as a loader for Norwalk Trucking Line, Norwalk, OH and also spent time working as an attendant at Lohrs Sohio in Elmore. He then was offered a job at Sun Oil Company in Toledo, OH, where he served in many different capacities. With his fire-fighting background, he also was on the plant fire brigade. He retired as a maintenance foreman in 1999. Growing up in Elmore, Bob found service to his community as a part of the beginning group of Fire Department and E.M.S. volunteers. His service to Elmore lasted 42 years as a firefighter where he was Chief of the Harris- Elmore Fire Department for 10 years. He loved serving as Santa Claus for the Village and the surrounding area. He enjoyed camping and fishing, watching the Buckeyes, Browns, and Tribe. Family was very important to Bob. He could often be found at one of his grandchildrens sporting events whether on the football field or at a swim meet. He could also be seen at these events wearing a sweater supporting the school with the name "Papa" written on the front, he was very proud. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elmore. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Shirley of Elmore, OH; daughter Melissa Damschroder of Darnestown, MD and Son Robert (Susan) Damschroder, Jr. of Vanlue, OH; known as "Papa" to his grandchildren: Jennifer (Matt) Dyer, Alex Damschroder, Ryan Dormitzer, Gregory Dormitzer, and Claire Marie Dormitzer; sister Lola (Irv) Wellington of Gibsonburg, OH, and brother Daryle (Jill) Damschroder of Elmore, OH. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore- Genoa Chapel. Harris- Elmore Fire Department will conduct a Fire Fighters Memorial Service on Sunday evening at the Funeral Home beginning at 7:30pm. Funeral Services will begin at 11am Monday, December 4, 2017 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elmore with the Rev. Mark Wentz officiating. Burial will be in Harris- Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Harris- Elmore Fire Department, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
