Raymond J. Dorko, 91, of Marblehead, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, August 15, 2016 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on August 4, 1925 in Marblehead, Ohio the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Adams) Dorko. On September 29, 1950 he married Elaine Elchisco and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2011. He was a 1944 graduate of Danbury High School and attended John Carroll University. Ray was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving our country during World War II from 1944-1946. He was self-employed working in the Construction and Excavating business until his retirement in 1989, and in ownership with his two brothers at Dorko's Cafe' (presently Jamestown Tavern) until 1976. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead where he served on parish council, member of the cemetery committee, and volunteered as an usher taking up collection at church. He was also past president and treasurer of Jednota, the first Catholic Slovak Union in Marblehead. With his career in excavating, he dug graves at the local cemeteries for many years. During his free time, he enjoyed reading poetry, watching Cleveland sports, astronomy, and praying the rosary daily. Survivors include his sons, Jeffrey (Amy) Dorko, of Alexandria, Virginia, and Dean (Mary) Dorko, of Marblehead; grandchildren, Caroline Dorko, James Dorko, Corey (Victoria) Mathews; great-grandson, Samuel Mathews; as well as many nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers, Andrew, Clarence, Lawrence, Cyril, Francis, and Daniel Dorko, and sisters, Veronica Dorko, Gladys Dorko, Mary Sherer, and Elaine Monak. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 4-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 9am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, with Father James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Marblehead with military honors given by members of the Marblehead VFW Post # 7572.
