Opal M. Elswick, 86, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. She was born on June 28, 1922 in Ironton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Nicholas J. and Della Mae (Roach) Harper. She married Owen Elswick on November 20, 1940 and he preceded her in death on June 4, 1960. She worked as a machine operator at the U.S. Gypsum Company in Gypsum, Ohio until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Port Clinton Moose Lodge #1610; member of the Port Clinton Eagles Lodge Aerie #2295; and a full time member of the Port Clinton VFW Post #2480 Ladies Auxiliary. During her later years she enjoyed traveling to casinos, especially in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. Survivors include her sons: Gene (Sandra) Elswick, Fremont, Ohio and Charles (Priscilla) Elswick, Sandusky, Ohio; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brother: Harold "Bunk" Harper, Ironton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons: Carl Edward Elswick and James LeRoy Elswick; sisters: Anna Valentine, Alberta Stapleton, Viola Skaggs; and brothers: Harlan Pearl Harper, Wilson Harper, and Charlie Harper. Visitation will be held at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton on Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm followed by Funeral Services at 1:00 PM with Dr. Ronald Huff officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
