Neil Lewis Allen, 84, of Lakeside, OH died Monday, August 15, 2016 at Otterbein North Shore Retirement Village, Lakeside, OH. He was born September 12, 1931 in Delphos, OH the son of Simon and Opal (Parlette) Allen. He married Kamille Reiss on March 28, 1958 and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2015. He graduated from Delphos High School. Neil graduated from Ohio Northern University and received his masters from Case Western Reserve. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Neil started his teaching career in 1955 as a teacher and coach at Lorain Schools and later at Lima Shawnee Schools. From 1964-1968 he was the Jr. Hi Assistant Principal and Jr. Hi Principal at Lima Shawnee. From 1968 1973 he was the Superintendent of Ada Exempted Schools. 1973 1977 he was the Superintendent of Upper Sandusky Schools. In 1977 he returned to Ada as Superintendent until his retirement in 1983. In retirement he was an Interim Treasurer and Interim Superintendent at Fremont, Marion, Port Clinton and Cleveland Schools. While he was Treasurer at Port Clinton City Schools he was instrumental in the building of the Performing Arts Center and the upgrading and remodeling of all school buildings. He was also a Financial Consultant for the Ohio Department of Education. He was a Bee Keeper and also a State Bee Inspector. While in Lakeside he worked as a Real Estate Agent for Smith Realty. He was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church; an active member of Lions Club for over 50 years most recently at Peninsula Lions Club. He was a Board Member of Lakeside Heritage Society, Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community, Lakeside Association, Lakeside Property Owners and numerous Boards of Education and Committees. In 1988 he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio Northern University and in 2000 he was inducted into the Ada Exempted Schools Hall of Fame. He was an avid post card collector. Surviving are his sons: Neil J. Allen of Findlay, OH, David (Kathy) Allen of Elyria, OH; daughter: Eileen (Rex) Lane of Otsego, MI; granddaughters: Lindsay and Ashley Lane of Otsego; sister: Karen Allen of New Rochelle, NY and sister-in-law: Sandy Allen of Huntington, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife: Kamille; parents, brother: Stan Allen and sister: Arlene Rose. Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd. LakesideMarblehead, OH. Rev. Bud Cox and Rev. Amy Shaw will be officiating. Private interment will take place in Sackett Cemetery, Danbury Township. Memorial donations may be given to Lakeside Heritage Society, Peninsula Lions Club or Stein Hospice.
