Michael Todd Sorg, 47, of Williston, Ohio passed away after a short illness on May 7, 2025, at Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born June 10, 1977, in Oregon, OH, to Douglas and Marcia (Harmeyer) Sorg. Michael was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
A proud 1995 graduate of Woodmore High School, Michael earned his Master’s degree from the University of Toledo and furthered his education with a Treasurer’s License from the University of Phoenix. Becoming a treasurer was Michael’s lifelong dream, and he was overjoyed to achieve that dream when he was hired as the Treasurer for the ESC of Lake Erie West. Known for his dedication, integrity, and commitment to his work, Michael poured his heart into the job he had always wanted.
Michael’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Amanda (Sondergeld), and their beloved children: Peyton, Preston, and Abigail (Abby). He was the cherished son of Doug and Marcia Sorg, and the proud brother of Scott (Alesia) Sorg, with whom he shared many fond memories. Michael is also survived by his mother and father-in-law Sandra and Daniel Sondergeld; nieces and nephews: Wyatt, Madelynn, Ysabella, Kye, and Zander, as well as his brother-in-law, Andrew (Jeanine) Sondergeld, and nephew Maison. He was a beloved member of the family, and leaves behind many cousins, aunts, uncles, and his dear Grandma and Grandpa Sondergeld.
Michael was preceded in death by his baby brother, as well as his beloved grandparents, Leonard and Elizabeth Harmeyer, Don and Bobbie Sorg, Tom and Sally Hamilton. He was also preceded in death by his close friends Tony and Shilo, who will always be remembered.
Michael was deeply involved in his community and will be missed by the many friends he made, where he had countless cherished relationships. A lifelong lover of baseball, Michael dedicated many years of his life to the sport, particularly to the Woodmore Select Baseball community. He was an integral part of the organization, running the Memorial Day Tournament for over 20 years. His passion for the game and his commitment to the kids and families involved were evident in everything he did. His presence on the field and in the stands will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Monday, May 12, 2025 from 2-8 at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 19550 W. State Route 51, Elmore. Funeral services will begin at 10am on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 at Solomon Lutheran Church, 305 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH 43469. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa with a luncheon to follow back at the Church. Mike’s dream was to put in new lights for all the baseball fields in Woodville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amanda Sorg for this Lighting Project for the Woodmore Baseball fields.
In honor of Mike’s love for sports, we ask that you dress casually for the showing in sports attire to show your support of this passion. He loved all Detroit teams, Ohio State and Woodmore! Thank you for showing your love of sports with him.
Michael’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the memories he made, and the love he gave so freely.
