Merry E. Miller

September 20, 1918 — December 25, 2016

Mary K. Miller, (Mary Elizabeth King Miller) or "Merry," was born in Mountainview, Wyoming, on September 20th, 1918, to Ralph Phillip King and Louella White King. She lived until the age of six in Wyoming and after her mother died, she moved to Green Springs, OH, to live with her Dad and his family. There she met her best and longtime friend, Jeanne Reed. She also met her childhood sweetheart (Dr.) Carroll D. Miller. They were married for over 70 years. She is survived by: three sons, John D. (Lynne Lehman) Miller of Bryan, OH; Thomas C. (Amy Fraker) Miller of Wauseon, OH; Robert F. (Carol Kennedy) Miller of Gibsonburg, OH; one daughter, Jo Ann (Dr. Charles P. ) Bartley of Shelbyville, IN; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and her best friend Jeanne Reed of Toledo, OH. Merry attended Bowling Green State University and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in Put-In-Bay, OH and flew with the famous Tin Goose Trimotor airplane to the mainland on weekends. She also taught in Woodville, OH. She worked in a war parts' factory when her husband trained for medical school at Wayne State in Detroit, MI. Next she moved with Cal and her young son John to Pueblo, CO, where Cal became an Army doctor. Finally they returned to Fremont, OH, where Cal started his local Family Medicine practice and delivered thousands of babies. Merry was a doctor's wife, a prolific reader, a skilled fisherman, a knitter, and a gifted musician. She played the piano by ear and could read music as well. She wrote original songs and poetry, and even her own children's story, a family favorite. Merry loved to cook and bake-especially pies. Many people, not only her family, received their favorite pie as a birthday present every year. At Christmas she and her friend Kathy Crosser made homemade toffee and caramel together as gifts. She served as Treasurer of the Fremont Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary and was a proud member of the S and B Sewing Club. Merry moved to Indiana to live near her daughter after Cal's death in 2010. She died at Moorestown Manor, living past the age of 98, on her own special day --"Merry" Christmas, December 25th, 2016. Merry's celebration of life, with Rev. Lisa O'Rear officiating, will be at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 206 N. Park Ave., in Fremont, OH, on Saturday, January 28th at 11:30 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Burial will be private. Donations may be sent to St. Paul's Church in Fremont, the American Lung Association, Birchard Library of Fremont, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
