Mary M. Provonsha

Mary M. Provonsha, 88, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton, OH. She was born in Toledo, OH on January 1, 1927 to C. Wesley & Ina Bredbeck. Mary began her teaching career at Maplewood Elementary School in Toledo, then moved to Oak Harbor. She taught first grade and substituted at R.C. Waters, Rocky Ridge, Carroll, and Graytown Elementary Schools for over 30 years. She loved teaching and watching her students learn and grow into adults. Many of her former students came to visit her to fondly recall their memories of school with her as their teacher. Mary was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers' sorority, for several years. She was also a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, where she enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir for many, many years. Mary, and her husband Paul, were married for over 65 years when he passed away on January 9, 2013. Together they worked at Family Camping Center and Chet's Place Campgrounds where they enjoyed their campers and making new friends. Mary is survived by her daughter, Martha Provonsha and son, Robert (Mary) Provonsha; grandchildren, Emily, Nicole (Shawn), and Matthew; great-grandson, Wyatt Michael Kaiser; brother-in-law, Jim Provonsha; and cousin, Dixon Ballin. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; sister, Ruth M. Larzelere; and an infant son. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 19, 2015 at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor, where friends are invited to call after 10:00 A.M. Monday. Pastor John Stirewalt will officiate, and interment will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
