Mary Jane Schmardebeck, 87, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Saturday morning at her home. She was born in Port Clinton on June 13, 1923, a daughter of Otto & Clara (Below) Steffens. Mary Jane loved to cook and tend to her home. She also greatly enjoyed crocheting and caring for her cats. Mary Jane was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, and was a secretary at the former Erie Army Depot. She was also a secretary to Colonel Conard at Camp Perry and the State of Ohio Bureau of Unemployment. In 1961, she married Eugene K. Schmardebeck, and he survives. Also surviving is her son, Dennis A. McGee, Port Clinton; daughter, Georgia Ehrhardt, Port Clinton; step-brother, Harold (Carol) Mackey, Ashtabula, Ohio; grandchildren, Richard Henry, Deborah (Mike) Hauke, Tiffany (David) Koeth, Heather (Deven) Peterman, and Joshua McGee. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents and a half sister, Charla J. Hudec. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, with Pastor Mike Wiechers officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton. Memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or Stein Hospice, Sandusky, Ohio.
