Mary A. Lucas, 97, of Port Clinton, Ohio and formerly of Marblehead, Ohio died peacefully with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Edgewood Manor Nursing Center, Port Clinton, Ohio. She was born on April 19, 1913 in Belle Valley, Ohio, the daughter of George and Anna (Janacek) Gaydos. She married Peter Lucas and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1943. Mary worked in the offices of Biro Manufacturing in Marblehead, the former Erie Army Depot in Port Clinton, and then at the former New Departure in Sandusky until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, where she was past vice president of the former Slovak Ladies Jednota Lodge. She was a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Marblehead. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, and anything that needed fixing, she would do it. Most importantly, she loved her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter: Patricia (Norbert) Monak, of Marblehead; grandchildren: Michael (Theresa) Casuccio, Sherry Casuccio, Joseph Casuccio, Shelli (Brad) Kasper, Heather (Jim) Mooney, and Peter Tietjen; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dolores Gaydos, of Marblehead and Betty Gaydos, of Catawba Island; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter: Diane Lucas-Rice; infant grandson: William "Billy" Tietjen; and brothers: Steve, George, Joe, John, Mike and Andy Gaydos. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 8:30-9:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM with Reverend Daniel J. Ring, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice; Edgewood Manor Nursing Center; or a charity of one's choice.
