Martha Phillips

Port Clinton, Ohio

     Martha Jean Phillips, 80 lifelong resident of Port Clinton, OH passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Riverview Health Care Campus, Oak Harbor, OH. She was born February 16, 1945, in Port Clinton, OH to the late Robert and Lucy (Hollinshead) Phillips. Martha was known to her friends and family by many names including Marty, Jean, and Jeanie Weenie. Martha was a proud member of the Port Clinton High School class of 1964. She later attended The Warner School of Beauty Culture in Toledo, OH where she received her cosmetology certification. Martha spent many years making people feel special as a beautician and caring for senior citizens and people with disabilities as a health care aide.

     Martha loved drum and bugle corps and was particularly fond of the Madison Scouts. She often attended drum and bugle corps shows, and over the years, become personal friends with some of the Scouts. She was very proud of her time in her younger years as a Cochran’s Majorette. Martha always enjoyed holidays and family gatherings. She especially loved Christmas. Martha would spend countless hours setting up her beautiful Christmas village display and decorating her home. She was always excited to show off her work to her friends and family. Martha had a determined soul and worked very hard to support her family throughout her life. She had an infectious laugh and a contagious smile, which will always be remembered.

     Martha is survived by her children: James (Kim) Phillips of Marysville, OH, Janice Hensley of Port Clinton, OH, and John D. (Andrea) Hensley III of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; grandchildren: Robert Hensley, Bakari Phillips, Melanie Phillips, Zaine Hensley, and Jack Hensley; great-grandchildren: Brock Hensley and Hinata Crawford; sister Susan Baker of Port Clinton, OH; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her sisters Clara Rion and Linda Kolinko and infant siblings Robert, Lauralye, and Rita Jean Phillips.

     At Martha’s request, cremation has taken place. Services will be handled privately by the family. Her ashes will be buried next to her parents at Riverview Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH.
