Marjorie M. Newell, 89, of Marblehead, Ohio died at home on January 7, 2011 after a lengthy illness. She was born at home in Cleveland and graduated from South High in 1939. During World War II, she was a long distance operator supervisor at Ohio Bell Telephone Company, downtown Cleveland. She married Thomas J. Newell in 1994 and became a homemaker. Together they built a summer cottage in Marblehead and eventually retired there. She enjoyed making crafts, raising orchids and collecting sea shells. She was a member of the Ohio Bell Union, the Elks, the Moose and a volunteer at Ex Libris Bookshop in Marblehead. She is survived by her children, Linda (James) Donahue of Cumberland ME, Lorrie (Scott) Halblaub of Marblehead, and Eric Newell at home, her grandchildren, Kerry (Guy Story) Donahue, Meghan Donahue and Shane (Sidsel) Halblaub, and her great-granddaughters, Stella and Margot Story, Astrid and Eva Halblaub. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Thomas J. Newell, her parents, Thomas and Flossie Cottle and granddaughter, Holly Halblaub. Services will be private. Burial will be in Sackett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Marblehead Peninsula Library Committee, Inc. (MPLC), P.O. Box 74, Marblehead, OH 43440.
