Lois J. Taft, 87, of Elmore, Ohio, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio. She was born in Elmore on May 26, 1923, a daughter of Fred & Marie (Haar) Jeremy. Lois was a graduate of the former Harris-Elmore High School and was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elmore. She also was active in the American Legion Auxiliary in Elmore, where she served as secretary for many years. She retired as a bookkeeper for the Bentley Construction Company, Toledo. Lois loved to travel and greatly enjoyed playing golf. On May 14, 1971, she married Edward Taft, and he preceded her in death on February 3, 2004. Lois is survived by her daughter, Vicki "Carr" (Louis) Therkelsen, Perrysburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Shelly Almroth, Michael Almroth, James Almroth, and Marc Therkelsen; 7 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephew, Jay Thatcher, Charlene Thatcher, and Amy Thatcher. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Winifred Thatcher. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosser Funeral Home, Elmore-Genoa Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where friends may call after 10:00 A.M. Friday. The Rev. David Nevergall will officiate, and interment will follow in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Humane Society of Ottawa County.
