Leslie E. "Duke" Canter, Jr., 85, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Riverview Healthcare Camus in Oak Harbor, Ohio. He was born on September 18, 1930 in Friendship, Ohio, the son of the late Leslie E. and Mae (Boling) Canter, Sr. He married Lillian Staton on October 15, 1960 and she survives. Duke was a veteran of the United States Army, serving our country during the Korean War. He was employed at the former Standard Products in Port Clinton as a Hi Lift Driver for 40 years, retiring in 1991, and was also a member of the Church of Christ in Port Clinton. As a current resident at Riverview Healthcare Campus for the past 12 years, Duke was a vital part of the daily activities there. He enjoyed participating in the various games which were offered, as well as his love of singing to the residents. He was always in high spirits and enjoyed telling a good joke. One year he was crowned the Riverview King at the Oak Harbor Apple Festival. He loved his granddaughters dearly and he also enjoyed taking his great-grandchildren for rides on his scooter. He will be missed by his loving family as well as by his friends at Riverview. Survivors include his wife, Lillian; daughter, Linda (Keith) Slauterbeck, Port Clinton; granddaughters, Christie (Andy) Miller, Oak Harbor and Brittany (Zach) Ross, Oak Harbor; great-grandchildren, Griffin and Kinley Miller, Cameron Ross; nieces and nephews; as well as his chihuahua, Puddles. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Canter; as well as sisters, Juanita Park, Gwendolyn Jenkins, and Regina Finken. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 from 3-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. On Thursday, May 12, 2016 additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10am until Funeral Services at 11am with Pastor Chuck Kaylor officiating.
