June 20, 1921 — February 9, 2010

Junior C. Davenport, 88, of Port Clinton, Ohio, and formerly of Millbury and Walbridge, OH died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Genoa Retirement Village in Genoa, Ohio. He was born on June 20, 1921 in Millbury, Ohio, the son of Francis and Priscilla (Cardosy) Davenport. On January 18, 1943 he married Eugenia Mae Grubb of South Carolina, his beloved wife of 64 years who preceded him in death on August 23, 2007. Junior was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country during World War II. He was a supervisor/machinist for Sun Oil Refinery in Oregon, Ohio for 32 years until his retirement. He received the "PEW" award for saving the life of a fellow employee at Sun Oil Refinery. After his retirement, Junior and Jeanne moved to their home on Rusk Marsh in Port Clinton where for 24 years he was instrumental in the development of what has evolved into distinctive wetlands in the Lake Erie Watershed. Junior was involved with Ducks Unlimited, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Ohio State University School of Environment and Natural Resources on various specialized projects in the marsh (wetland). He was a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Millbury and Heritage Christian Church in Oregon. He was also a proud member of the Genoa Masonic Lodge # 433 F&A.M. His hobbies included bowling, hunting, fishing, flower gardening, and being in the outdoors. Survivors include his daughters: Frances (Corky) Felbinger, Elmore, OH; Clair (Dick) Varwig, Walbridge, OH; Vicki (Dale) Butland, Columbus, OH; Kathy (Jerry) Rusk, Port Clinton, OH; Brenda Petty (Ian), Columbus, OH; son: James C. (Coleena) Davenport, Port Clinton, OH; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and brother: Merrill Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers: Ron and Minton. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where members of the Genoa Masonic Lodge #433 F & A.M. will conduct services at 7 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted by his pastor of 27 years, Larry G. Vriezelaar at 11 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Lake Township Cemetery, Millbury with military honors being given by members of the United States Army. Memorial contributions may be made to Stein Hospice.
