Judith Anne Heiks of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died at 85 on Monday, June 2, 2025, under hospice care at Oak Harbor’s Riverview Health Care Campus. She was born on January 1, 1940 in Fremont, Ohio, to the late Kenneth and Bessie (Gyde) Vogt. Judy grew up on a dairy farm on County Road 17 in Port Clinton. She met the love of her life, Ronald Lamar Heiks, while working at a library in Port Clinton and they were students at neighboring high schools. In 1958, Judy graduated from Port Clinton High School and Ron from Oak Harbor. They attended The Ohio State University together, and married on September 12, 1959. Ron preceded her in death on October 8, 2019.
Judy returned to school after her children were grown, and in 1981 earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Western State College (now Western Colorado University). She was a teacher throughout her life: a Sunday school teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Clinton when she was 17; preschool in Michigan; elementary school in Colorado; elementary and high school in Washington State. Ron & Judy moved back to Oak Harbor in 2001.
In Michigan, Judy was a Cub Scout leader and a PTA treasurer. In Ohio, she led a women’s bible study group and was treasurer for the Oak Harbor Alliance Chapel. Ron & Judy were members of Shoreline Church in Oak Harbor.
Survivors include her sons: Timothy (Natalie Green) Heiks of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Todd (Deborah) Heiks of Graytown, OH; grandchildren: Deminique (Dave Steinkirchner) Heiks and Tyler (Runyu) Heiks; Judy Redfern, whom Judy & Ron considered a granddaughter; brother-in-law Thomas (Jimi) Heiks; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ron, son Theodore, sister Norma (Russ) Deal, and brothers: Darrell (Dorothy), Gaylord (Ruth), and Dale (Nancy) Vogt.
Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2025, at Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home, 301 N. Locust Street, Oak Harbor from 4-7pm. Funeral Services will begin at 11am on Saturday, June 14, at Shoreline Church, 769 N. Locust St., Oak Harbor, OH, 43449. Burial will be in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, followed by lunch at Shoreline Church. The family appreciates any contributions in Judy’s memory be made to Habitat for Humanity of Ottawa County, an organization Judy long-supported.
