Jonathan T. Pope, 17, of Port Clinton, Ohio died Thursday, December 24, 2009 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Port Clinton. He was born on September 6, 1992 in Port Clinton, the son of Thomas E. and Carolyn A. (Ochs) Pope. Jon was a Junior at Port Clinton High School where he was a member of the band in which he played the Tuba. Jon also played on the Port Clinton High School football team and wrestling team in which he lettered in both sports all three years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Port Clinton where he was involved with the youth group. He loved to fish, and was a very happy kid who was always smiling, being kind and helpful to those who knew him. He especially enjoyed hanging out with his friends and most importantly, his family. Survivors include his parents: Tom and Carolyn; brothers: Nicholas and Evan; grandmothers: Madeline Ochs and Sue Pope-Bitter; great grandmother: Cora Digby; aunts and uncles: Monica (Karl) Busby, Paul (Tina) Ochs, Joyce Ochs, Julie (Theo) Dunham, Jane (Mark) Grindley, Annie Enderle, Mike Pope (Amy Ceccoli); cousins: Erin Ochs, Brad (Briana) Busby, Stephen, Karlie, and Kacie Busby, Emily and Alec Ochs, Dana (Tony) Day, Rob (Krista) Enderle, Allison Enderle, Ben and Andy Grindley; second cousin: Blake Enderle. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Ambrose "Bud" Ochs III and William "Bill" Pope; and uncle: Ambrose "Buzz" Ochs IV. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton with Reverend John C. Missler, officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Island Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bill and Jonathan Pope Endowment for the Arts Scholarship Fund.
