John R "Wags" Wagenhals, 71, of Marblehead, died suddenly on Saturday May 22, 2010 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. He was born January 6, 1939 in Mansfield, the son of John and Elizabeth (Hammer) Wagenhals. Wags was a retired firefighter for the City of Mansfield. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the VFW Post 7572 of Marblehead and the American Legion Post 888. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge 341 and the Oak Harbor Golf Club. Wags loved fishing and gardening, but his passion was golf, being the president of the Monday Retirees League. He achieved a "hole-in-one" at both the Port Clinton Golf Club and the Oak Harbor Golf Club. On January 6, 1978 he married Debbie (O'Brien) and she survives in Marblehead along with his daughters Debra Sue Wagenhals-Beck, Cynthia Lynn (Brian) Martin and Jennifer Ann Wagenhals, all of Butler and Suzanne Marie (Michael) Banks of Lucas and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Edith Mae Frisby. Friends may call from 4 7 pm Tuesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton where the VFW Post 7572 will conduct memorial services at 6:30 followed by Chapel on the Lake services at 6:45. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgewood Manor Nursing Center in Port Clinton.
