John F. Roth

John F. Roth, 88, of Lakeside Ohio, and formerly of Bay Village Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at his residence. He was born on June 30, 1927 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Herman John and B. Louise (Henderlong) Roth. On May 25, 1950 he married Jane Beal and she survives. John was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during World War II as a Radio Technician and later in Sonar Research. He received his Bachelor of Science degree and became a Professional Electrical Engineer working for the Cleveland Twist Drill Company (Acme Cleveland) for over 33 years, retiring in 1985. He was an active member of the First United Church of Christ in Marblehead; President of the American Institute of Plant Engineers in Cleveland; and an officer and chairman of various church committees and community volunteer groups. He enjoyed singing, especially in choirs and quartets, and acting in Little Theatre in the Cleveland area. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years: Jane; daughter: Jennifer M. Cleary, Elyria, Ohio; grandchildren: Michael (Elizabeth) Cleary, Megan (Darrine) Miles, Marc (Darla) Cleary, Ian Roth, Elliot Roth; ten great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Carrie Roth, Brunswick, Ohio; brother: Clyde Roth, Akron, Ohio; sister: Norma Ash, Akron, Ohio; and sister-in-law: Lorna Roth, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son: James Stanley Roth; his son-in-law: Farrell Cleary; brother: Harold Roth; sister: Betty Wohler; brothers-in-law: Don Ash, Ray Wolter; and sister-in-law: Marion Roth. Per John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on April 23, 2016 at 11am at the First United Church of Christ, 802 Prairie Street, Marblehead, Ohio, 43440 with Reverend Kay Cox officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ, the Lakeside United Methodist Church, 450 Central Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio 43440 or to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
