John B. Shiko

John B. “Jake” Shiko, 74, of Catawba Island, went to join the Lord early on August 4, 2007 from his residence following a brief illness. He was born May 17, 1933 in Mt. Carmel, PA to the late John V. & Emma (Lucas) Shiko. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1951 and served four years in the US Navy during the Korean War. He married Barbara J. (Budock) Shiko on November 9, 1957 in Mt. Carmel and she survives. Jake worked for Uniroyal Inc. in Passaic, NJ and was transferred to Uniroyal (now Fenner-Dunlop) in Port Clinton in March 1973. He retired in 1993 as a Production Manager. Jake enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, talking to those “especially in need”. He adored spending most of his time with his daughter, Sandy “potato bug” and caring for his grandsons, Cody and Bobby, their “one and only Papa”. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, American Legion, Elk’s Lodge and VFW Post all of Port Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons, John C. Shiko of Mt. Carmel and Robert F. Shiko of Catawba Island; precious daughter, Sandy A. (J.R.) Jessee of Oak Harbor; adoring grandsons, Cody and Bobby Fleenor of Oak Harbor; one granddaughter and two grandsons; sisters Mildred Palembas and Irene (Joseph) Kurland of Mt Carmel and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 11 A.M. Tuesday until the time of services at 1 P.M. Tuesday at the Neidecker, LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Rev. Raymond Ensman will officiate. Interment will follow in Catawba Island Cemetery. A memorial mass will follow at a later date at the Immaculate Conception Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heartland Hospice of Tiffin or one’s favorite charity. “We’ll always be together Dad” I Love You…Sandy.
