James W. Damschroder, 79, of Elmore, OH died Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his home following a brief illness. He was born April 13, 1938 in Fremont, OH to the late Wilson "Cookie" and Mary (Waggoner) Damschroder. He was a 1956 graduate of Gibsonburg High School and received his B.S. in Agriculture from The Ohio State University. In 1957 he married the former Dorothy Marshall and she survives. James was a pilot for the United State Air Force during Vietnam and continued his passion for flying as an airline pilot for TWA where he helped train new pilots and retired as Captain in 1998. Jim truly enjoyed his agricultural roots and spent countless hours on his family farm in Lindsey. "Big Jim" enjoyed volunteering and supporting Woodmore High School track and cross country programs in the 80's and 90's. In 1989 Jim and wife Dorothy opened Beth Allens Florist in Oregon, OH where he helped with bookkeeping. Jim became and avid bird watcher and was an active member of Friends of Magee Marsh. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Elmore; children: Leslie Damschroder of Paradise, CA, Jeff Damschroder of Grove City, OH, Doug (Jackie) Damschroder of Oregon, OH, and Amy (Joe) Cuzzupoli of Weston, MA. Grandchildren: Katy, Matthew, Logan, Elizabeth, Camille, Willie, and Alex. Brothers: Scott (Norma) Damschroder of Studio City, CA and Dennis Damschroder of Alexandria, OH. He was also preceded in death by his brother Jerry Damschroder. Visitation will be Monday, November 6, 2017 from 2-8pm at the Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel, 19550 W. State Route 51, Elmore, OH 43416. Private Services and Burial at the Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Friends of Magee Marsh or any wildlife organization.
