James D. Walters, 79, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, died Monday, May 18, 2015 at his home. He was born in Imler, PA on December 16, 1935, a son of Calvin & Ruby (Frantz) Walters. James attended Fremont, Ohio schools and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1953. After his discharge in 1955, he was a member of the Marine Corps Reserves. He worked for the former Standard Products Company in Port Clinton, Ohio for 34 years, and later for the Baumann Automotive Group. James loved being a "backyard auto mechanic" and his prized possession was his 1966 Corvette. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor, where he was a member of the Parish Council and the Home & School Association. He also served as an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1944. James served as the financial secretary for U.A.W. Local #497, Port Clinton, and was a member of American Legion Post #114, Oak Harbor. On September 7, 1957, he married the former Sharon O'Neal of Oak Harbor, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jody (Philip) Carstensen, and James Walters; grandchildren, Tyler & Marissa Carstensen and James & Peyton Walters; brother, Robert Walters, and an aunt, Nora Fulton. Also surviving are numerous in-laws and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Curtis, Clyde, and Samuel Walters, and a sister Mary Duncan. Family and friends are invited to call from 2-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 22, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Oak Harbor. The Rev. Fr. Timothy F. Ferris will be the celebrant, and interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, with American Legion Post #114 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8732 providing military graveside rites. Following the services, a luncheon will be held in the undercroft of the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Church or School.
