Irmgard M. Zielke, 91, of Genoa, OH, and formerly of Oak Harbor, OH, died Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Genoa Retirement Community. She was born on December 18, 1924 in Germany, a daughter of Paul & Martha (Pietch) Rbesam. Mrs. Zielke was well known for her cooking skills, which she learned from her mother who was a cook for wealthy families in Germany. She cooked at the Wyandot Service Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike when it first opened, and also for the Oak Harbor Golf Club, Riverview Nursing Home, Latham's, and Brush-Wellman. As a child in Germany, she learned sewing and needlework. She loved counted cross stitch and made bedspreads, tablecloths, runners, and many other items. She also was accomplished at crocheting and ceramics. In 1949, she moved from Germany to the United States and married Ernest Zielke. He preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Zielke was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. Surviving are her children, Glenn (Linda) Zielke, Yorba Linda, CA and Linda (Denver) Shabnow, Toledo, OH; grandson, Jason Sparks; great-grandchildren, Samantha & Jacob Terrill; and her sister, Gerda of Zurich, Switzerland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; and her daughter, Karen Evans. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2016 in the main dining room of the Genoa Care Center, 300 Cherry St., Genoa, OH. Private interment will be in Elliston Cemetery, Elliston, OH.
