Ima Joy Kibbel

Ima Joy (Smith) Kibbel, 83, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Country Side Continuing Care Center, Fremont, OH. Joy was a native of Camden, Arkansas and was the wife of the late Lyle O. Kibbel. She was born August 16, 1930 the daughter of the late Robert M. Smith and Ima (White) Smith. Upon graduation from high school she worked in the production control office for the Navy where rockets were loaded for the Korean War. The Naval base closed after the Korean War was over and she went into the restaurant business. Eight years later she joined her siblings in Fremont, Ohio. She owned and operated Taylors Restaurant. She and Lyle were married in 1967 and they made their home in Oak Harbor, Ohio. She graduated from the Academy of Beauty Culture in Toledo with a degree in Management. She did her graduate work at Pivot Point in Chicago, IL. She was owner/operator of Joy's Beauty Salon in Oak Harbor. After Lyle's retirement they moved to Mebane, N.C. She returned to Fremont after his death. She is survived by one sister, Billie Moffatt of Ft Myers, two sisters-in-laws, Sally Pauline Smith of Fremont, OH and Irene Smith of Monroe LA and a host of nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by six brothers; Carlton Smith, Charles Smith, Harry Smith, Gene Smith, Tommy Smith and Bob Smith; four sisters; Jessie Papati, Ruby Eaken, Wanda West and Doris Wilson. A memorial service will be held at the Grace Brethren Chapel, where she was a beloved member for many years, at 11:00AM on Thursday, March 20th. The Chapel is located at 1820 North State Route 590, Gibsonburg, Ohio. Viewing will be from 9-11 AM that morning at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grace Brethren Chapel. Crosser Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Oak Harbor is assisting the family with arrangements.
