Harvey Merle Petersen

Harvey Merle Petersen, age 86, of Edgewater, FL and Lakeside-Marblehead, OH died Nov 4, 2014, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was born April 25, 1928 in Akron, OH, the son of the late Harvey and Naomi Grace (Hawk) Petersen. Harvey married the love of his life, Martha Jane Foreman in 1957 and she survives. Harvey graduated from Copley High School in 1946 and Akron University in 1950. He served in the Army in "A" Company and Signal Company, 628th Tank Battalion, 28th Infantry Division, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He worked at B.F. Goodrich in Akron, OH for 30 years, retiring as the Director of Quality Assurance for the Aerospace Division. He lived for 40 years on a beautiful farm in Sharon Center, OH, where he built his own house. From his childhood on, he vacationed in Edgewater, FL, and relocated there after retiring, while summering each year in Lakeside, OH. He was a member of the Edgewater United Methodist Church in Florida and the Lakeside United Methodist Church in Ohio. Harvey was an avid fisherman, having learned all of the "holes" on the Indian River in the Edgewater area at an early age from his grandfather Frank Hawk. Harvey inherited a gift for storytelling from his grandfather Hawk, and would regale listeners with a seemingly endless supply of tales. Harvey and Martha were also enthusiastic ballroom dancers. Harvey will be greatly missed by his wife, Martha; children: Harvey Richard Petersen of Edgewater, FL, Margaret Moran Dobson (husband John) of Sylvania, OH, and Jean Marie Carlton of Ridgecrest, CA; grandchildren: Harvey Raymond Petersen (Maxine) of Akron, OH, Kathryn Moran (Jason Purcel) of Charlotte, NC, Sarah Nevarez (Esteban) of Columbia, SC, Michael Moran of Sylvania, OH, Kevin Dobson of Jackson, MS, and E2 Katelyn Dobson of Morgan City, LA; great-granddaughter: Lily Petersen of Akron, OH; cousins: William Long of Brecksville, OH, and Robert and Wilma Jean McClary of McDonald, OH; and lifelong friends Bruce and Martha Bridgeman of Port Clinton, OH. Visitation will be held Friday, November 7, 2014 from 2:00 5:00 pm at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Rd., LakesideMarblehead, OH where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 am.
