George R. Twarek

George Raymond Twarek, 85, of Marblehead, died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on May 3, 1922 in Marblehead, Ohio, the son of the late Michael & Anna (Hanik) Twarek. He was a sergeant in the United States Army Infantry during WWII. In January 1946, he married Ruth Henershot, and she preceded him in death. George was the owner/operator of Erie Food Market from 1967 until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead; charter member and life member of VFW Post #7572, Marblehead; charter member of the Peninsula Lions Club; member of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce; and member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718. His hobbies included bowling, flower gardening, and being an avid golfer. He loved spending time with his children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed life, and "never missed a party"! Survivors include his children, Georgia Thompson, Westin, FL; Gregory (Natalie) Twarek; Christopher (Linda) Twarek; Jayne (David) Murphy; and Jeanne (James) Smith, all of Marblehead, OH; Eleven Grandchildren; Four Great-Grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Twarek and Clarence Twarek both of Marblehead. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Michael, John, and Francis Twarek; sisters, Ann Babcock, Mary Kokinda, Sophie Hallier and Helen Meterko. The family will receive friends from 3-8 P.M. Tuesday at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, where VFW Post #7572 will have services at 7:30 PM, followed by prayer services by Reverend Daniel Ring. On Wednesday, March 12, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marblehead, at 10:00 AM with visitation at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. Reverend Daniel Ring will officiate, and interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Marblehead with military honors being conducted by members of VFW Post #7572, Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to either Lakeside or Marblehead Fire Departments.
