Gene Holcomb

Gene Lawrence Holcomb, 65, of Port Clinton, Ohio died unexpectedly on Monday, July 4, 2016 at his residence. He was born on November 7, 1950 in Fremont, Ohio, the son of the late Mason and Dorothy (Balduf) Holcomb. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Gene dedicated his life to working on automobiles. He was the owner/operator of Sunoco before becoming the service manager at Cooper Auto, Taylor Cadillac and finally at Rays Service Center in Perrysburg, Ohio. Gene was a member of the Port Clinton Fire Department from 1974 until his retirement in 1993, and during that time, he became Captain in 1981. He was also a charter member of the Port Clinton EMS from 1977-1993. He was a member of the Port Clinton Moose Lodge #1610 and was an active member of the Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718. He loved riding his scooter around town and by the lake. Survivors include his sons, Matthew (Amy) Holcomb, Port Clinton, and Christopher Holcomb; granddaughter, Addison Holcomb, (who was the apple of his eye); brother, Kenneth (Bonnie) Holcomb, Port Clinton; sisters: Shirley (Bob) Britt, Gypsum, Ohio, Ruthie (Chuck) Tettau, Port Clinton and Nancy Barr, Washington D.C.. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Holcomb, and his canine companion, "Scruffy". Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 2-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, where members of the Port Clinton Fire Department will conduct fireman services at 7:30pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10am with Rick Tettau officiating. Burial will follow in LaCarpe Cemetery.
