Frances E. "Fran" Druckenmiller

June 23, 1924 — April 17, 2016

Frances Elizabeth "Fran" Druckenmiller, 91, of Oak Harbor, Ohio died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Genoa Retirement Village, Genoa, Ohio. Fran was born in Toledo, Ohio on June 23, 1924, the daughter of Frank J. and Marion Mensing. Fran grew up in South Toledo, next to the Toledo Zoo. As a young girl, she loved watching the animals, especially the chimpanzees. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1942. She attended a Toledo Business School and began working as an executive secretary in an insurance office in the Spitzer building, where she met the man of her dreams, Bill, whom had recently returned home from WWII. Bill and Fran married and made a life together in Oak Harbor, where Fran was a devoted wife and mother to two sons, David and Paul. She took her "career" as a homemaker very seriously, and was a "perfectionist" with her home, meals, flowers and yard. Fran will always be remembered for her warm smile and infectious laugh, which could be heard throughout the local supermarket every Saturday morning. Fran enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing Pinochle and Bridge, tending to her flowers, and was a longtime member and former President of the Oak Harbor Literary and Social Club. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church for 70 years, where she taught Sunday school, was a past member of the church Altar Guild and Women's Rachel Circle. Her true passion in life was her husband, children and grandchildren. Fran is survived by sons, David (Karen) of Louisville, KY and Paul (Kathy) of Oak Harbor, six grandchildren, Chris, Heather, Jason, Justin, Michelle and Nathan, five great grandchildren, brother, Frank (Patricia) Mensing and sister Helen Gavin and many nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased in death by her sister Lois A. Kuhlman. The family will receive friends after 10 A.M. on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 122 W. Ottawa Street, Oak Harbor where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jon Bell will officiate, and interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. The family is grateful for the care given to Fran by Heartland Hospice and the many wonderful, caring people at Genoa Retirement Village. Those giving memorial contributions may wish to consider the Sign Fund or Organ Repair Fund of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
