Lakeside, Ohio

Dwight Ellsworth King, a beloved father, grandfather, and husband, passed away at the age of 83 on May 6, 2025. Dwight was born on May 13, 1941, in Tiffin, OH to Cecil Dwight and Marguerite Achsah (Miller) King.

Dwight shared a profound bond with his wife Alice, whom he married on December 28, 1963. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure. A dedicated serviceman, Dwight served as a jet fighter pilot in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, spending the majority of his service from 1963 to 1970 stationed in Ramstein, Germany.

Professionally, Dwight's career was marked by significant achievements. He worked for Electronic Data Systems from 1970 until 1998, after which he took on the role of Managing Director of Telstra in Australia and New Zealand, finally retiring in 2002. His passion for gardening, particularly growing dahlias, was a testament to his love for nature. He was an active member of the Dahlia Society of Ohio and served as the past president of the Dahlia Society of Australia.

Even in retirement, Dwight's sense of community and dedication did not wane. He was deeply involved in the restoration of The Hoover Center for the Performing Arts in Lakeside, OH. Known for his handyman skills, Dwight was affectionately called the "Fix-It Guy," always ready to tackle any project.

He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Alice; his children, Warren King of Katy, TX, Kirsten (Michael) King-Sockolof of Piscataway, NJ, and Aaron (Samantha) King of Australia; and his cherished grandchildren, Tara King, Matthew King, Jacob Sockolof, Alexander Sockolof, and Bee King. Dwight's legacy also includes memories of his parents, Cecil and Marguerite, and his brother Dean King.
