Duane L. Goebel, 86, of Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was born on February 1, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Fred and Stella (Manquen) Goebel. He married Mary Morelli on November 7, 1953 and she survives. Duane was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. He graduated from Aquians College in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1951, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Work. He worked at the Toledo Mental Health Center until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead; member of the Stanley Jadwisiak VFW Post 7572, Marblehead; as well as a member of the American Legion and AMVETS in Sandusky. He loved watching baseball and was an avid Toledo Mud Hens fan. He also enjoyed traveling with Mary, going to Hawaii, and spending most of their time on Kauai, as well as traveling the Orient, including Australia and New Zealand. He is survived by his wife: Mary; daughter: Barbara (Timothy) Kelly, of Milan, Michigan; grandchildren: Shannon Hartman, Jennifer (Chase) Olszowy, Sam Kelly; great-grandchildren: Natalie and Hunter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: daughter: Angela Hartman; and brother: Jim Goebel. Visitation will be held on both Thursday, August 6, 2015 and Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio, where members of the VFW will conduct a military prayer service at 7pm on Friday. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 9am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, with Father Jim Brown officiating. A light luncheon will be held immediately following mass at the VFW in Marblehead. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Stein Hospice.
