Dr. Robert W. Minick, 85, of Port Clinton died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton, OH. He was born April 18, 1925 in Toledo the son of the late Alfred W. and Enid M. (Neeb) Minick. A native of Gibsonburg, OH, Dr. Minick attended Capital University in Columbus, OH for his undergraduate education and received his medical school training at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, graduating in 1948. He completed his medical internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He married Sally Stafford on August 1, 1996 and she survives. Dr. Minick provided medical service to Oak Harbor area residents over a six-decade period, from 1950 to the present, continuously except for a two-year period in the 1950's when he commanded a field hospital in West Germany for the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He was a member of Magruder Hospital's Active Medical Staff from May 1950 until June 2005. He served as President of the Ottawa County Medical Society. He served sixteen years on the Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education, including at the time the B-C-S district was formed (!967) and at the time the new high school was built and opened (1975). He was recognized for forty years of service as a team physician for Oak Harbor High School and received the Ohio Outstanding Team Physician Award in 1990. He served 22 years as Medical Director of Riverview Nursing Home in Oak Harbor and 25 years as the Medical Director of Edgewood Manor Nursing Home in Port Clinton, OH. He served seven years as a member of the Ottawa County Board of Health and two years as Medical Director of the Ottawa County Health Department. In 2003, the medical building in Oak Harbor was rededicated as the Robert W. Minick Medical Center in recognition of his service to the community. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church Catawba Island, Oak Harbor Marsh Club, a past member of Oak Harbor Rotary Club and he was an avid boater, golfer and he loved to read. Surviving are his wife: Sally; daughters: Monica Oakley of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia Freihofer of Atlanta, GA, Amy (Bart) Minick-Peterson of Indianapolis, Ellen (Ken) Medved of Atlanta, GA; step-daughter: Christy (Gavin) Cox of Sandusky; step-son: Jeremy (Stacy) Isaac of Oklahoma City; grandchildren: Brooke Oakley Cherven, Kurt Freihofer, Natalie Freihofer, Meg Peterson, Cooper Robert Medved, Connor, Aiden and Kale Cox, Noah and Lily Isaac; sister: Mary (Howard) Lang of Woodville; sister-in-law: Jacque Minick of North Carolina. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, May 15, 2010 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, OH where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until the time of the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church social hall. Memorial contributions may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church, Catawba Island.
