Dr. Robert L. "Doc" Nehls

Dr. Robert L. "Doc" Nehls, 78, of Catawba Island died Friday, October 27, 2017. He was born January 2, 1939 in Oak Harbor, OH the son of Alvin and Nellie (Holmes) Nehls. He married Norma Stone on April 30, 1960 and she survives. Dr. Nehls graduated from The Ohio State University and was a veterinarian for 42 years. He and his wife owned and operated Catawba Island Veterinary Hospital. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir. He was a member of Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and Romeo Breakfast Club. Bob was a hardworking, loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and a natural provider and protector. He never missed his grandkids' activities. He had a dry sense of humor and sharp wit. He loved long walks with his wife, the love of his life, on the Catawba Beach and playing games with his family. He was an intelligent, calm and peaceful man who was very generous in word and deed. A talented musician and recorded singer who often sang at church and nursing homes. He was an avid Buckeye and Browns Fan. Surviving are his wife of 57 years: Norma; son: Jeff (Jennifer) Nehls of Catawba Island; daughters: Jackie (Jill) Nehls-DeiCas of Dublin, Jill (Ralph Edmonds) Nehls Martinez of Catawba Island; grandchildren: Zachary, Rachel and Rebekah Nehls, Jacob St. Aubin, Jena (Christopher) Biegler, Logan and Brooke Martinez, Katelyn, Victoria and Courtney Koebel; brothers: Dave (Judy) Nehls of Crystal River, FL, Tim (Bev) Nehls of Palm Harbor, FL; sisters: Diane (John) Carson of Kenton, OH, Janet (Marvin) Kleinhans of Hadley, PA.
