Dr. Michael Scott Mabee, 84, of Marysville and formerly of Catawba Island passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, OH. Born January 19, 1941 in East Cleveland the son of Dr. Horace Grant and Evelyn H. (Watson) Mabee. As a military child, he lived in numerous places. Upon graduating high school in Cleveland, he attended the Ohio State University for undergraduate school and later returned to earn a PhD in Microbiology. He was a faithful Buckeye fan, proudly flying his OSU flag every football game day. He started his career in Colorado where he worked for Coors as the head of the microbiology department, returning to Ohio to work in research and development for Combibloc and then eventually retiring from International Paper where he also worked in research and development. A favorite pastime, Mike was an avid boater for over 50 years, spending many of his summers and then retiring to Lake Erie. He married the love of his life, Nancy Lee Wirick, on September 1, 1978, celebrating 35 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on July 13, 2013. Mike was a proud member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Port Clinton, OH. He was a man of deep faith, who lived his life in accordance to those beliefs.
Surviving are his children: Chad Michael (Jodi) Rowe, Sr. of Berwick, PA, Jodie Marie (Jason) Rowe Stewart of Lagrange, GA, Patricia Lynn (Daryl) Mabee Kucera of Omaha, NE, Jeffrey Allen (Sherri) Mabee of Marysville, OH; grandchildren: Mitchell Scott (Jenna) Mabee, Courtney Lynne (Mike) Sappington, Joshua Taylor Kucera, Haile Catherine (Michael) McAnally, Chad Michael Rowe, Jr., Anna Lee (Richard) Cashman, Abigail Lynn (Ethan) Thomas, Rayne Ayn (Ezekiel) Benick,; great-grandchildren: Brayden J Lucas, Sayge Jeffrey Lucas, Grayson Joseph Lucas, Kayce Mical Sappington, Owen Kenneth Rowe, Charleigh Rowe, Ella Mae Cashman, Ryker Jensen Thomas, Jethro Miles Thomas, a niece, several nephews and last but not least his beloved dog, Bailey who has been his constant companion for the last 12 years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother: Dr. William G. Mabee and sister: Pamela Mabee.
Memorial services will be held October 18th, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Port Clinton. Entombment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery Columbarium.
