Dorothy H. Maringer March 9, 1924 February 27, 2015 Dorothy Helen Maringer passed away February 27, 2015 and is now reunited with her loving husband of 59 years, Gilbert, who passed away June 25, 2005. Dorothy was born in Cincinnati Ohio where she lived with parents Bernard and Florence Esterkamp, brother Bernard Jr., and sister Rosemary. She attended St. James Catholic School in the country community of White Oak and took secretarial studies at Cincinnati Technical School. During WWII she sang and danced at the USO and worked at the Andrew Jergens Company in the personnel department. That's where after the war she interviewed a handsome veteran looking for a job and 3 months later they were married. Dorothy and Gil had 3 sons while she partnered in her husband's careers as the band director of Xavier University, as they built a successful real estate brokerage, and as Gil held elected positions in Colerain Township for many years. Dorothy earned a real estate sales license while volunteering for many years at her sons' schools. As her grandchildren came, she and Gil acquired a beautiful property on the northwest shore of South Bass Island in 1976 where they spent their best days enjoying a growing family and many close friends. Her favorite pastimes were admiring the stunning sunsets, nurturing wild flowers, watching the birds, and doing volunteer work at Mother of Sorrows Church on the island. She became skilled at quilting blankets for veterans at the Cleveland VA Hospital and she devoted her final years to helping many charities, particularly those who assisted children all over the world. As her health brought her to nursing care at the Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn, Ohio her brightest moments were seeing pictures of her beloved 22 family members, all of whom she referred to as the "Joys and gifts of her life". She was a beautiful, loving person who easily put all people before herself and truly brought joy to all who knew and will always love her. Dorothy is survived by son Gil Jr./Cheryl Maringer of New Franklin, Ohio, grandchildren Allison/Adam Schumacher of Akron, Joseph/Julie Maringer of Cincinnati, son Michael/Gloria Maringer and grandchildren Russell/Melissa Maringer of Marblehead Ohio and Michelle/Joseph Veliz of Port Clinton, and son Glen/Elizabeth Maringer and grandchildren Nicholas and Mamie Maringer of Cincinnati, 5 great grandchildren (Gabrielle, and Maria Maringer, William Veliz, Adrian Schumacher, and Jayce Maringer), and Sister Rosemary Esterkamp of the Glenmary Sisters, Owensboro, Kentucky. Services will be a visitation at 11:00 am and mass at 12:00 pm Saturday May 9th at Mother of Sorrows Church, Put-In-Bay with burial on the island at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Neidecker, LeVeck, and Crosser Funeral Home of Port Clinton. Funeral Home: Neidecker-LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home - Port Clinton Chapel 1124 Fulton Street Port Clinton, OH US 43452
