Donald P. Greene

Donald P. Greene, 80, of Marblehead, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born on November 30, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of the late Nicholas and Nellie (Brock) Greene. He was a proud 1954 graduate of St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. On August 6, 1955 he married Maureen Prendergast and she survives. Don worked for Sun Life Insurance Company in Cleveland managing a team of Insurance Agents. In 1972, Don and Maureen, along with their partners Chuck and Mary LaCorte, bought Zeller's Beach, and the families ran the business together for many years. In 1982, Don retired from Sun Life and he and Maureen moved to Marblehead permanently, and shortly after, became the sole owners of Zeller's. They focused on making Zeller's a place for families to spend summers together, and as their family grew with the addition of grandchildren and great grandchildren, they spent countless hours on the beach, boating, water skiing, and just being together with their own family. Winters were spent in Cape Coral, Florida, and they loved to travel, especially to Ireland and New England. Don was a member of the Irish American Club in Cleveland, and a lifetime member of St. Pat's Gaelic Football Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, where he served on numerous committees over the years, and as a lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and an altar server. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Marblehead Bank and was a very active member of the Marblehead Peninsula Lions Club for many years. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Maureen; daughters, Colleen (Bill) Frazer, Patsy (Roger) Frazer, Mary (Chris) LaCorte, all of Strongsville, Ohio, Donna (Chris) Malfara, Port Clinton, Ohio, Kellyann (Mike) Pokrandt, Brunswick, Ohio; grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Megan, Nicki, Christina, Joe, and Tony; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Rocco, Addie, and Baby Bryce due in September; sister, Helen (Don - deceased) Sedivy, Marblehead; brother, Nick (Patti) Greene, Mentor, Ohio; dearest friend, Father Ulick Bourke, Boston, Massachusetts; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14 2016 from 4-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. On Monday, August 15, 2016 additional visitation will be held from 10 am until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 822 Barclay Street, Marblehead, with Father James Brown officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fr.
