Derek L. Griffin

Derek L. Griffin, 23, of Martin, OH, died Sunday, October 31, 2010 at his home. He was born on July 30, 1987, a son of Gary & Susan M. (Morse) Griffin. Derek was a 2005 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, where he was active in track, setting a school record for the 4x2 relay in 2005. He was a second degree black belt and fought in Italy for the U.S. Tae Kwondo team. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. Dereks favorite pastime was spending time on Lake Erie in his sailboat and his fathers inflatable dinghy. He loved to sneak it away in the early morning hours while the water was calm. Derek will be deeply missed by his brother Devon. Surviving are his father, Gary A. (Sandra) Griffin, Northwood; brother, Devon L. Griffin; step-sisters, Christy L. (Rick) Hinz, Courtney D. Pompos; grandparents: Donald L. Griffin of Northwood and Benny and Edna Morse of Oak Harbor. He was preceded in death by his mother Susan M. Liske, step-dad William E. Liske, Jr. and grandmother Louise Griffin. Friends may call from 2-8 P.M. Thursday at Crosser Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, with the Rev. Keith A. Hunsinger officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Derek L. Griffin Memorial Fund.
