David M. Kahler

August 15, 1943 — April 27, 2015

David M. Kahler, 71, of Catawba Island, died peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, April 27, 2015 surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, OH. He was born Aug. 15, 1943 in Sandusky the son of John R. and Dorothy M. (Monroe) Kahler. He married Margaret "Peggy" Kasuga in 1965 and she preceded him in death in 1969. He married Barbara Funk-McCormick on Sept. 7, 1973 and she survives. David graduated from Sandusky High School in 1961 and he received his BA in Business from The Ohio State University in 1965. David served his country in the United States Army as a recruiter during the Vietnam War. He was the purchasing director for the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Sandusky. He then worked in industrial sales for Associated Suppliers for twenty years. He finished his career in sales with The North Coast Business Journal. David enjoyed playing the trombone for over 60 years. He played with Sandusky High School various bands, Buckeye Boys Club Band, OSU ROTC & Buckeye Bands, Port Clinton Community Band and Terra Thunder Jazz Band. He played golf at the Catawba Island Club and he was a founding member of Lake Erie Junior Golf Association (L.E.J.G.A.). He was a sports enthusiast and bowled in the Elks Bowling League. He loved to work in his yard and especially enjoyed grilling. Surviving are his wife: Barbara; daughter: Amy Heflinger of Huron; grandchildren: Jack Heflinger, Addi Heflinger; sisters: Jacqueline Hamblin of Oneonta, NY, Donna Devaney of Kincardine, ON, CA, Kathy (Joe) Haase of Powell, OH; aunt: Alice Monroe of Copley, OH; uncle: Richard Kahler of Seattle, WA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00pm Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1124 Fulton St. Port Clinton, OH where visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 4:00 pm. Rev. Robert Butcher will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Back to the Wild, L.E.J.G.A. or Terra Music Program.
