Daniel J. Kurtz, 80, of Port Clinton, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born on January 9, 1935 in Hastings, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John and Grace (Schwartz) Kurtz. He married Suzanne Szilagyi on May 6, 1961 and she survives. Dan was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served his country during the Korean War. Dan worked for Ohio Edison as a line foreman from 1958 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Gypsum Community Church; a member of the Port Clinton American Legion Post #113, and a lifetime member of the Port Clinton Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1610. Dan was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, bottle hunting, collecting arrowheads, and metal detecting. Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; sons: Kenneth J. (Debra) Kurtz, Oak Harbor, Ohio and Donald J. (Louise) Kurtz, Port Clinton; grandson: Joey Kurtz; brothers: Melvin (Irene) Kurtz, Michael (Marge) Kurtz, Pete (Nancy) Kurtz, Tom Kurtz, George (Doris) Kurtz, Bob (Christine) Kurtz; sisters: June (Bill) Schneider, Nancy McClean, Patty Piatiak; sister-in-law: Betty Kurtz; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Jack Kurtz and sister: Mary Urban. A celebration of Dan's life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 11am at the Gypsum Community Church, 730 Lake Street, Gypsum, Ohio with Reverend Roger Smith and Reverend Jim Matthews officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to either the Gypsum Community Church or to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
