Carol L. Beckler

December 14, 1938 — April 3, 2015

Carol L. Beckler, 76, of Catawba Island and formerly of Toledo died peacefully on Good Friday, April 3, 2015, with a number of her friends and her two precious cats in attendance at her side, Sammy and George. She was born Dec. 14, 1938 in Toledo, the daughter of the late H. Richard and Mary Lou (Campbell) Greeley. She married Lawrence Beckler and after more than 50 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 2014. Carol was raised on the East Side of Toledo and graduated from Waite High School where she was a drum majorette. She continued her education at the University of Toledo, graduating with a degree in Education. She was hired as a Toledo Public School Teacher. She and her late husband met on the dance floor of the Peppermint Lounge in downtown Toledo and soon thereafter, they were married. For many years, they resided in South Toledo and spent most weekends at their home on Catawba Island. Carol and her brother Larry were also dance partners at many clubs in the Toledo area. Many people compared them to Liberace and Barbara Striesand. After Larry retired in 1995, they moved from Toledo and made Catawba Island their permanent home. After retirement Carol volunteered at the former Medical College of Ohio and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church School in Port Clinton. Carol loved her animals including her late dog, Jamie. She was kind to everyone and supportive of her friends especially at Otterbein. "She wanted everyone to know she had her Master's Degree with all A's and one B, in statistics." Carol was a very knowledgeable person about the history of the Battle of Lake Erie and Put-in-Bay. Surviving are her step-son: Kurt Beckler and family; sisters-in-law: Betty (Thomas) Straub and family and Sharon Krauser and family. She was preceded in death by her husband: Larry and brother Lawrence Greeley.
