Carla R. Gritzmacher

Carla Ruth (Wainwright) Gritzmacher, 61, of La Plata, Md., and formerly of Oak Harbor, died March 10, 2008. Mrs. Gritzmacher was a retired teacher with the Charles County Board of Education, serving for 38 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in La Plata where she was choir director, pianist and organist for 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, crossword puzzles and the outdoors. She volunteered with music at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born July 11, 1946, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Carl F. & Dolores E. (Bahnsen) Wainwright. Carla was a 1964 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by stepmother, Lillian D. Wainwright. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth C. Gritzmacher; sons, Michael J. (Jill) Battaglia of Annandale, VA, Steven W. (Lisa) Battaglia of Springfield, NJ; daughter, Amy Jo Gritzmacher of La Plata, MD; sister, Joann Smalley of California; and grandson, Ryan Michael Battaglia. Funeral services were held March 15, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church in La Plata. Interment was in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Charles County, P.O. Box 1703, La Plata, MD 20646.
