Alex Meterko

Alex “Butch” Meterko, 94, of Marblehead, Ohio, died December 30, 2007 at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, Ohio. He was born March 27, 1913 in Marblehead, OH the son of the late Michael & Helen (Soltis) Meterko. He married Helen Twarek on June 26, 1943, and she preceded him in death on November 26, 2007. Mr. Meterko was a barber at the Lakeside Barber Shop and was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II. Butch was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Marblehead, a life member of VFW Post 7572, Marblehead, and a former member of American Legion Post 555, Marblehead. He collected guns and enjoyed trap shooting, competing at Camp Perry. Surviving are his daughters, Helen Anne (Bill) Byrnes of Woodbridge, CT, Marilyn (Rick) Orcutt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sons, Robert (Sue) Meterko of Port Clinton, Ray (Pat) Meterko of North Ridgeville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wifem Helen; one sister, and four brothers. Office of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, January 3, 2007 at St. Mary’s Byzantine Church, Marblehead. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. at Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, Lakeside-Marblehead. Additional visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9-10 A.M. at the church. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marblehead, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 7572. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home or St. Mary’s Byzantine Church.
