KATHLEEN RICE MUTACH July 15, 1917 April 21, 2009 Kathleen Rice was born July 15, 1917 in Fremont, Ohio, to Myrtle Howard Rice and Edward Rice. She graduated from Fremont Ross High School (1936) and the Toledo Beauty School. In the spring of 1937 she came to Marblehead to work in a beauty shop on Erie Beach Road and during that time, she met Ervin Mutach. They married on June 2, 1940. She was a life-long learner; taking telecourses from Case Western Reserve, becoming an avid reader, working in the family business and volunteering in the community. She was a founding member of the Fine Arts Club (now Literature Club), organizer and first President of CCL, the first organization on the peninsula that brought together women from Marblehead, Lakeside and Danbury, and a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross. Hers was a life well lived. Survivors include her son Thomas Mutach, Fairfield, Ohio; daughter Diane DeVries, Grosse Pointe, Michigan; grandson Robert Mutach, Batavia, Ohio; granddaughter Kaitlin DeVries, West Hartford, Connecticut; sister-in-law Phyllis Rice, Brown Deer, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. We would be remiss not to mention her dear cat, Abigail. Per her wishes, a private graveside service was held April 24, 2009 at Clemons Cemetery, Marblehead, Ohio. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the Marblehead Volunteer Fire Department, 517 West Main Street, Marblehead, 43440 or the Humane Society of Ottawa County, 2424 Sand Road, Port Clinton, 43452.
