Karen Elizabeth Holmes, 22, of Marblehead, Ohio, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Sandusky, Ohio. She was born on March 18, 1993 in Sandusky, Ohio, the daughter of Stanley and Cecelia (Cappy) Holmes, Jr. She was a 2011 graduate of Danbury High School and while there she attended EHOVE and enrolled in their EMT/Firefighter program. She was chosen chief of her senior class and received high honors. She obtained her basic EMT certification and volunteered at the Lakeside Fire Department. Currently, she was in the process of enrolling to become a Registered Nurse at Bryant and Straton College in Akron, Ohio. Karen is remembered by her EHOVE classmates for her strength and leadership. She worked at Otterbein Northshore Retirement Center in Lakeside and at Vista Care Center in Sandusky as a STNA where she enjoyed taking care of the residents. She also enjoyed writing, listening to music, going to the beach, exercising, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her niece and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her mother, Cecelia, Marblehead; paternal grandmother, Elsie Holmes, Marblehead; sisters: Jessica (Bill) Zufall, III, Wadsworth, Ohio; Ashley Holmes, Marblehead; brother, Stanley "Lee" Holmes, Marblehead; niece, Vanessa Zufall; nephews: Billy Zufall IV, Owen Zufall, Arron Holmes; aunts: Emma Holmes (Ray Wilson), Marblehead; Felicia Holmes, Sandusky; as well as numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father: Stanley, Jr.; her paternal grandfather: Stanley, Sr.; her maternal grandparents: Robert and Cecelia Cappy; aunts: June Hollinger and Deborah Kwiatkowski. Taken from us too soon, we will always carry her memory in our hearts. Her beautiful soul is now set free and she is reunited with her dad. Per Karen's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 2-8pm at the Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home, Peninsula Chapel, 7755 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside-Marblehead, Ohio. Private services for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
