Dennis R. Hamann

June 14, 1935 — July 31, 2016

Dennis R. Hamann, 81, arrived peacefully in his heavenly home on July 31, 2016. He left this world lovingly surrounded by his wife and three daughters. Denny was born June 14, 1935 in Oak Harbor, Ohio. He is a 1953 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. He married his high school sweetheart Joan (Fleckner) in Whitesburg, Kentucky. He worked at Tri Motors of Oak Harbor as a mechanic and service manager. In 1968 he bought Denny's Gulf Service. He was a highly respected and trusted mechanic in his community. Generations looked to him for their automotive and towing needs. The corner of Water and Locust will always be known as Denny's Gulf. He owned and operated the business until his retirement in 2011 when he proudly passed the business on to his student, co-worker, and son-in-law, Bill Edge. He also taught automotive repair and math at Whitmer Vocational School and attended The University of Toledo. In 1971 Denny served on Oak Harbor Village Council for several years as chairman on the Streets and Sidewalk Committee. Denny loved to work with his hands. He had a God given talent at creating and fixing just about anything. He was always tinkering in his shop. His loved ones have no doubt that he is cracking jokes with his quiet, unexpected sense of humor, looking for the nearest casino, enjoying heaven's model trains, taking a relaxing boat ride and roasting marshmallows in God's fireplace. Our loss, is Heaven's gain. Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Joan (Fleckner), of 63 years. Daughters Vickie (Larry) Goldstein, Becky (Bill) Edge and Jackie (Rod Graffis) Hamann. Grandchildren Monica (Calvin) Metcalf, Chelle (James) Blausey, Nicole (Matt Marvin) Goldstein, Bill (Amie Elarton) Edge, Ryan (Amanda Case) Goldstein, Julie (Mario) Nolfi and Alex Edge.
